2026 Spring update

Happy Spring, finally! It has been a long and cold winter and despite that the garlic is thriving in the cool wet weather. A couple of weeks ago we had just completed covering all of the garlic and shallots with row covers in anticipation of the first flight of the Allium leaf miner. They typically arrive here in late April with the first wave in NY being over by mid June. That usually coincides nicely with when the garlic begins to produce its scapes and we can remove them then.

We have decided going forward that this will be our standard process. They can cause significant damage to our crops and the investment in row covers was well worth it. It also reduces the need for us to use organic pesticides such as Spinosad and keep it as simple as possible.

The garlic is looking fantastic and should our first checks in late June look good, we may be able to put some up for pre-sale. There is also the option to have us notify you when an item is back in stock on the shop product pages. We are only shipping to the U.S. and please note any allium shipping restrictions to your specific state. We regret that we cannot ship to California, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Hawaii and Nevada.

We will also be getting the peppers in shortly and have a few new varieties we will be trialing for Seed Savers Exchange, Peanut, Challeano and Karlo. Hopefully we'll get some fun updates on those as well as some tomatoes and beans we will be trying out as well.

Til then, happy planting!
